As an Approved Supplier of InterTradeIreland 'Emergency Business Solutions' support, Health and Safety Consulting Ltd. provides professional advice to cross border companies to address business challenges related to Covid-19.
Professional advice in the areas of health and safety / business risk, to the value of £2,000/€2,250 inc VAT (100% funded), is available for cross-border companies in manufacturing and tradable services, to address key business challenges related to Covid-19.
Please note: Businesses involved in retail, distribution and agriculture are not eligible for assistance under this scheme. The funding is provided under the European Commission Regulation on De Minimis Aid as stated in the application for Emergency Business Solutions. The business must provide InterTradeIreland with details of all other De Minimis aid which has been granted to the business within the past three years. It should be noted that a false declaration by a business resulting in the threshold of €200,000 being exceeded could later give rise to the aid being recovered with interest.
Lisburn based Smiley Monroe, a producer of endless conveyor belts and cut rubber and plastic parts for global manufacturers of materials processing equipment, obtained health and safety support under the Emergency Business Solutions scheme. Having selected an Approved Supplier for the support, Health and Safety Consulting Ltd collaborated with the company to identify where value could be added during these challenging times. Smiley Monroe’s Health and Safety Manager, Malcolm Proctor in conjunction with the leadership team had already developed and implemented the appropriate control measures to enable the business to continue to meet customer demand.
As many businesses will appreciate, the pandemic challenge is both unprecedented and very demanding. The InterTradeIreland Emergency Business Solutions program was an opportunity, without cost to the business, to provide confidence that they had implemented all that was reasonable to mitigate the risk from the Covid-19, to look for further improvements to incorporate.
Health and Safety Consulting conducted a thorough review of the arrangements in place within Smiley Monroe’s operations, using BSI’s document ‘Safe working during the Covid-19 pandemic – General guidelines for organisations.’ A structured Report of the Review provided a list of minor recommendations that were adopted and incorporated into the existing arrangements. A detailed Contingency Plan was also produced, laying out a road map for use should a similar threat arise again in the future. Other associated documents were developed and adopted by the company to enhance their current systems and build on their resilience. One example is a detailed procedure on the actions to take in the event of a case being suspected in the workplace, with each of the steps to be taken to mitigate the risk and re-establish production in the shortest possible time.
The project took 3 weeks from authorisation by InterTradeIreland to completion and Ashley Haslett, Consultant with Health and Safety Consulting commented: “It was very impressive to see the management team so actively engaged in seeking further improvements. The commitment and leadership to managing this risk and maintaining a healthy working environment contributes to the resilience and success of the business.”
Malcolm Proctor, Health and Safety Manager at Smiley Monroe added "The opportunity of 100% funded support from InterTradeIreland was welcomed by our company. It provided an additional resource to independently consider our arrangements in place and presented suggestions to further improve the management of the Covid-19 threat in a timely manner.'
